One girl from Sichuan International Studies University said, “I never buy a new things just because something is broken, as long as the things I like, I will not consider whether I had bought something like that”. The reporter interviewed a total of 40 students in eight universities, including 15 boys and 25 girls. According to these 15 boys, the reporter made a rough estimate that boys spend more than 2000 yuan in each month. According to the statistics, the boys generally will charge 500 yuan in the school meal card, 200 yuan for telephone charges, 600 yuan for purchasing clothes, 700 yuan for dinner and entertainment. The large part of their money was spend on dinner, clothes and entertainments. If there is a case of feast or girlfriend birthday, they will spend 500 yuan to buy gifts and holiday costs. And for the girls, their monthly expenses are basic in 1800-2200 yuan, of which 50% of the cost spent on clothes and cosmetics, 400 yuan for meal card, 600 yuan used as pocket money to purchase cosmetics and skin care products, and the rest of the money will used to buy all the clothes and cosmetic products. They will turn to their boy friends for help if their money are not enough.
Our reporter also found a funny atmosphere, there always be many scavengers around the dormitory building, who try to please the building master so that they can enter into the apartment directly. Mr. Qiu Shenggui, the students call him “old man”, who has been the scavenger in the Chongqing University for three years. In the three years, he picked up in several universities surrounding Shapingba County, and he earned more than four thousand yuan for each month. He classified the garbage and cleaned the things which are useful for his family, and then sell the things to the Flea market, thus can make them a good income.
The reporters said these parents know their children’s extravagant behavior, but they can do nothing. The only kid is regarded as the apple in their parents and grandparents, even they do such behaviors, they just try to be thrift of themselves.
The education professor of Southwest University, Zhang Zhongming said, the thrift consciousness of college students become weak and weak, they spend their parents money without any sense of their parents’ hardship.
